Water Resources Tank Irrigation
Tanks are small reservoirs created by building earthern bunds across small streams. When the depth of the tank exceeds 12 m, it is known as a reservoir. Usually, depth of a tank is less than 4.5 m. * In tanks, surplus escape arrangement is in the form of a surplus escape weir, provided in the body of the tank bund. Occasionally, syphon spillway is provided as is done in the case of earth dam project. * Tanks may be in groups or isolated. * Provision of breaching sections is necessary if tanks are in groups as a precaution against their failure. * The capacity of an irrigation tank is sometimes increased by installing dam stones. * The discharge through the sluice of a small irrigation tank is usually controlled by plug.
